WHAT IS OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING?

Weightlifting consist of two lifts the Snatch and Clean and Jerk. Athletes strive to perfect these two movements. Starting at a young age, athletes train to achieve perfect technique. In these two disciplines, time, patience and an experienced coach is what's needed to progress.

HOW DO I COMPETE IN OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING?

In order to compete in the sport of weightlifting in B.C. You must be registered with BCWA. You do not need to be in a club or have a coach in order to compete. You can also find information on weightlifting competitions on the BCWA website. It is beneficial to speak with a coach to learn how a competition works.

WHERE DO I TRAIN FOR OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING?

You need to find a gym with specific equipment to the sport. A platform or open space to lift, Olympic weightlifting bar and bumper plates.

HOW DO I LEARN THE OLYMPIC LIFTS?

You can find many tutorials online. However, it is best to find a weightlifting coach.

OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING FOR SPORTS

The Olympic lifts, snatch, clean and jerk, as well as other variations are often used by athletes to develop strength and power to improve performance in their sports.

Weightlifting is used to train for other sports. You don't use other sports to train for weightlifting.
